Dear Friends,
Those who will read these few lines are certainly former students of “STAN”.
As all of us, after leaving school, we had only one desire: continue our studies to enter the working world and start a family.
These wishes, still relevant today, are commendable and natural. But a successful life also relies on the past, and that is when memories resurface, generally embellished by time. It then becomes natural to try to find old classmates, places and shared memories.
This is the current purpose of the Former Students Association. Originally, and the first statutes confirm it, the ambition was much greater.
In 1889, the purpose of the Association was “to preserve the friendly relations contracted on the benches of the Seminary and to unite the various generations of students”.
In 1928 it added: “It shall strive to defend and promote Christian teaching, and especially the institution where its members were educated. It shall be named: Friendly Association of the Former Students of the Minor Seminary of Carcassonne.”
In 1985, the purpose was already more in line with our current expectations and, I believe, still relevant today: “To maintain the friendly and fraternal relations contracted by the Former Students of the School and the ties between the various classes and generations of Former Students and their former teachers, to help Catholic education and in particular to work morally and materially for the Saint-Stanislas School. It prohibits all political discussions and activities.”
Today, our means are certainly limited, but our ambition remains to preserve the spirit of our predecessors towards their school, to participate each in their own way in its harmonious development, and above all to maintain strong and friendly relations among all.
Internet is the major communication tool of the 21st century; let us know how to use it, especially thanks to this new site which is now open to us for its “Former Students” section by Mr. BAUDIER, the new Director of the Saint-Louis school complex, whom we warmly thank for this initiative. It should help maintain and strengthen contacts and allow us to gather in ever greater numbers to support Saint-Stanislas and meet again in a friendly atmosphere where memories, current life and projects mix harmoniously. This is my most sincere wish.
Here is our latest “letter” sent to all our members, following the major changes that occurred this summer. It was accompanied by the invitation to our last General Assembly held in the high school premises on Saturday, November 27. Hoping that next year the masks will fall….
