Apprenticeship in a few words
The apprenticeship contract is intended for any young person aged 16 to 29.
This contract aims to provide, for people who have fulfilled compulsory schooling, alternating training leading to a professional qualification:
• a theoretical and general part takes place in a CFA (Apprenticeship Training Center).
• a practical part takes place in a company.
This training is validated by obtaining a diploma in professional or technological education.
Age limit exemptions
Several exemptions allow training through apprenticeship outside the classic framework:
• In the following two cases, the apprentice’s age cannot exceed 29 at the time the new contract is concluded, and within a maximum period of one year after the previous contract expires:
• Signing a new contract following a previous apprenticeship contract, allowing the apprentice to obtain a higher-level diploma.
• In the event of termination of the contract for reasons beyond the apprentice’s control (employer ceasing activity, employer misconduct, repeated breaches…) or due to temporary physical incapacity (article R. 6222-38 of the Labor Code).
• People with disabilities are exempt from the age limit.
• When creating or taking over a business, when it is linked to obtaining the diploma resulting from the training.
Which diplomas can be prepared through apprenticeship?
It is possible to access training ranging from CAP to engineering degrees through apprenticeship.
The following qualifications can be prepared:
• A professional diploma from secondary education: CAP, professional baccalaureate, vocational certificate, complementary qualification.
• A higher education diploma: BTS, DUT, professional bachelor’s degrees, engineering degrees, business school diplomas, etc.
• A professional certification registered in the RNCP.
The cost of the training is covered by the host company, which receives funding through its OPCO.
