General and Technological 10th Grade

General and Technological 10th Grade

Why choose the General and Technological 10th Grade?
Just as the Middle School Certificate is not an end in itself when entering 6th grade, the Baccalaureate should not be the only goal when entering high school.
The General and Technological 10th Grade is designed to help students consolidate and expand their mastery of the common base of knowledge, skills, and culture, in order to successfully transition from middle school to high school.
For students, the goal of high school is to prepare for Higher Education and succeed in it.
All general and technological baccalaureate graduates continue on to Higher Education (at least 2 to 3 years beyond the Baccalaureate). They are often prepared to study beyond that level.
The General and Technological 10th Grade is a year of determination. Students still have one year to choose any stream for 11th and 12th grades (general, technological, or vocational).
Career guidance continues in 10th grade with the choice of a baccalaureate pathway, and later in 11th and 12th grades with the choice of Higher Education studies.
Students benefit from various forms of support (remedial help, methodology, advanced learning, and guidance counseling) as well as preparation for Higher Education.

The 10th Grade helps students define their pathway within the final cycle leading to the general or technological baccalaureate, with the goal of successful higher studies and, beyond that, professional integration.

It combines:
Core subjects to strengthen general knowledge and culture, and optional courses. Students may choose up to two optional subjects — one from the general options and one from the technological options.

MANDATORY SUBJECTS COMMON TO ALL STUDENTS

 • French
 • History and Geography
 • Modern or Regional Languages (LVA and LVB): 5h30

 • Physics and Chemistry: 3h

The middle school years allow students, over four years, to gradually prepare for high school. Each stage helps them open up to the world and discover new opportunities.
