9th Grade (General Track)

9th Grade (General Track)

The 9th grade completes Cycle 4 and the middle school years.
The program is demanding, but students will have acquired the methods and skills needed to move to the next level. The end of the year is marked by the national diploma exam as well as orientation choices. It is therefore a pivotal year.
In 9th grade, all students complete a work placement in a company — an opportunity to discover the world of work, to complement activities carried out as part of the Career Path program, and to reflect on their future career goals. The internship often results in a written report.

THE 9TH GRADE INTERNSHIP

In 9th grade, all students complete a work experience internship in a company. It is an opportunity to discover the professional world in a practical way, to build on activities carried out as part of the Career Pathway, and to reflect on possible career goals. The internship leads to the writing of a report and may also serve as the topic for the oral presentation of the Brevet exam.

THE BREVET EXAM

The National Brevet Diploma marks the end of the school year and concludes the student’s middle school education.
The written exams take place over two days, usually during the last week of June. The diploma is awarded based on both continuous assessment throughout the year (400 points) and final exam results (400 points).

WHAT’S NEXT? CAREER PATHS AND FURTHER STUDIES

In 9th grade, students must define their personal academic project and choose their future path. To assist them, a personalized orientation interview is conducted with the homeroom teacher and the student’s family.

The student must choose one of three possible options after middle school:
 • General and Technological High School
 • Vocational High School
 • Certificate of Professional Competence (CAP) – 1st year.

The middle school years allow students, over four years, to gradually prepare for high school. Each stage helps them open up to the world and discover new opportunities.
